Sandy is a working southern-Salt-Lake-Valley suburb, and the stadium sits in a commercial-and-civic district along State Street rather than a walkable urban neighborhood. The Shops at South Town mall and the Sandy Civic Center sit immediately adjacent to the stadium, with the chain restaurants along State Street providing the closest food-and-drink cluster. The Wasatch Mountains rise dramatically east of the stadium and form one of the most photographed backdrops in MLS — broadcast crews lean into the mountain view whenever afternoon matches allow it. Downtown Salt Lake City and Park City are both a short drive away. Travelers building a wider day can pair the match with a downtown Salt Lake dinner, a Park City drive, or a day in the Wasatch ski resorts (Alta, Snowbird, Brighton, Solitude) immediately east in winter and trailhead-hiking season in summer.

Plan to arrive at least an hour before kickoff — security screening at the gates can stack up on rivalry nights, particularly for RSL matches against the LA Galaxy or Colorado Rapids. The TRAX Blue Line drops you a short walk east of the stadium; on busy nights it's the easiest approach. The Wasatch Mountain backdrop is one of the most photographed scenes in MLS — afternoon and early-evening matches put the snow-capped peaks (in spring and winter) directly behind the south stand. The supporters' end (the Rapid Riot and La Barra Real groups) anchors the building's loudest section. Utah valley evenings get cold faster than visitors expect at the open bowl, particularly in spring and fall — bring a layer. America First Field opened in October 2008 as Rio Tinto Stadium, the second purpose-built MLS-specific stadium in the Mountain West (after Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson), and was renamed America First Field in 2022 under a naming-rights deal with America First Credit Union — the Utah-based credit union. The stadium is privately financed and was built specifically for Real Salt Lake after years of the club's nomadic temporary-venue residencies. The Wasatch Mountain backdrop is the building's most-photographed feature and is core to its visual identity on broadcasts. Real Salt Lake won the 2009 MLS Cup in only the stadium's second season (a defining win at Toronto's BMO Field over the LA Galaxy) and have since hosted multiple Concacaf Champions League knockout matches. The stadium also hosts the Utah Royals (NWSL — the club returned to NWSL play in 2024 after a 2020 pause), and the venue is part of the broader America First Sports complex.
