About Mexico City

Mexico City is hosting the opening match of the FIFA World Cup 2026 — Mexico vs South Africa at Estadio Azteca on June 11. Azteca becomes the first stadium ever to host matches at three different World Cups (1970, 1986, 2026). Five matches in total — three group games, a Round of 32, and a Round of 16 — anchor the tournament's most historically significant venue and one of the largest cities in the world.

Templo Mayor

The excavated ruins of the main Aztec temple of Tenochtitlán, in the historic center of Mexico City — administered by INAH.

Frida Kahlo Museum (Casa Azul)

The cobalt-blue Coyoacán house where Frida Kahlo lived and worked — preserved as a museum of her art and personal effects.

Teotihuacán

The pre-Aztec city of the Pyramids of the Sun and Moon, an hour northeast of Mexico City — a UNESCO World Heritage Site managed by INAH.
